Welcome to Semester Two! Rehearsals are now under way with students and rehearsal directors working towards the end of year performances. The first Semester Performance Season of “A Magic Show” at the National Theatre in June was very well received, we have had some terrific feedback from audience members. Congratulations to all who participated in first semester performances!
In Semester Two, Broadway Chorus students will be working on all things comical as they rehearse for “Make ‘Em Laugh! The World of Musical Comedy”. The show will include songs from Avenue Q, Chicago, Damn Yankees, Grease, Hairspray, Mamma Mia, Singing in the Rain, Spamalot, Young Frankenstein and many more!
Tickets for the end of year performance season will go on sale early in Term 4 so please look out for an email and booking forms distributed in class at the beginning of next term.
As part of the Broadway Chorus drama curriculum, most students are in the process of rehearsing a play. Throughout this term, students will participate in audition processes, practice working with other students collaboratively and learn how to work with a director and take direction.
The objective of this curriculum is not necessarily to create a highly polished performance piece, but rather for the students to take part and understand the various components associated with assembling a performance. The aim is to increase students awareness so that they can take these skills and apply to their end of year performances. We encourage all parents/guardians to attend at the demonstration time listed on your Rehearsal and Performance Schedule. Students will be dismissed at the conclusion of the demonstration.
Rehearsal and Performance Schedules
By now everyone should have received both a hard copy (in class) and an electronic version (via email) of their rehearsal and performance schedule. This schedule includes all rehearsals, workshop and performance dates for each student.
Please put workshop and performance dates into your diary. If performing in multiple performances, please ensure these dates do not clash. If there are any problems, please ring the office.
Arrivals and Apologies
Please remember to arrive at the scheduled class time. Rehearsals commence promptly so please allow a few minutes to get to class so you don’t miss out on anything.
Apologies for absence or lateness should be sent to your Venue Manager, not phoned through to the office. Please check the contact details on the front of this newsletter as some details have changed.
Uniform Reminder
Students are reminded to wear correct uniform to rehearsals each week. The Broadway Chorus uniform consists of:
- Young Australian Broadway Chorus T’shirt;
- Black jazz shoes;
- Black pants.
Long hair should be tied back neatly off the face.
It is recommened that parents of younger students use elastic in their jazz shoes instead of laces as they can then be pulled on and off easily.
Lost Property
We still have a large number of uncollected lost property items from Semester One and the mid year performances. Lost property will be on display at our Hawthorn Venue (Swinburne Senior Secondary College - 505 Burwood Rd, Hawthorn. Melway: 45 E 10) on Saturday 19 September from 10am - 3:30pm.
Lost property from Term 3 will be held by your venue manager until the end of the term. At the end of Term 3 all lost property will be donated to charity.
