Developing young people through the performing arts

About Victorian Youth Theatre

Established in 1984, the Victorian Youth Theatre is one of the oldest performance based drama schools in Melbourne. The program, which accepts students aged 8 to 18 years, is beneficial for both the aspiring actor and those wanting to improve self confidence, self awareness and language skills.

The evidence is clear that participation in the performing arts provides a valuable foundation for young people's lives. Improved confidence and self-awareness, better public speaking skills and language skills, increased creativity, and enhanced academic achievement, are just a few of the benefits to be gained from performing arts training.

The Youth Theatre program offers a variety of tuition including improvisation and creative drama, script work, voice projection, articulation and character work. Classes consist of up to 18 students of similar age and ability. All students perform on stage twice a year.

Advanced students also have the opportunity to be promoted into Performing Groups, where skills are refined and taken to the next level.
