From the Head of Beginners OnStage, Emily Devlin

Welcome to Semester Two!  A big congratulations to all our students who performed in our Semester One Performance Season “Do You Believe in Magic?” at the Union Theatre from June 22nd-26th. For many, it was their first time on stage under the bright lights and in fabulous costumes! It truly was a magical time, and students should be so proud! Thanks also to our teachers who worked so energetically to prepare the students for their big night!

Our theme for Semester Two is “Talk to the Animals”. Students will turn into chirping birds, cool cats, roaring lions, snappy crocs and more as they start rehearsing new repertoire, including brand new songs, dances and plays! In class this Semester, students will explore areas such as puppets, using percussion instruments and different genres of dance, including a taste of ballet, tap and hip hop!

Rehearsal CDs

After the success of the rehearsal CDs from last Semester, we are once again distributing a CD for students to rehearse with. The CDs compliment class work, and provide an excellent resource for practising at home. Why not try these practise ideas?
•  Play the CD on the way to Beginners OnStage in the car.
•  Have a mini concert in the lounge room at home.
•  Have a special CD player/place at home where your budding star can rehearse!
•  Take the CD to school and perform for Show and Tell!

Please note that there is only one CD for each child and CDs cannot be replaced if lost due to copyright and licensing rights.

Rehearsal CDs will be distributed in class a few weeks before the end of Term 3.

Beginners OnStage is offering a ‘Friends of the Zoo’ (FOTZ) pass to the lucky winner of our end of year performance programme cover design competition. General Notices

Rehearsal and Performance Schedules
By now everyone should have received both a hard copy (in class) and an electronic version (via email) of their rehearsal and performance schedule. This schedule includes all rehearsals, workshop and performance dates for each student.

Please put workshop and performance dates into your diary. If performing in multiple performances, please ensure these dates do not clash. If there are any problems, please ring the office.

Arrivals and Apologies
Please remember to arrive at the scheduled class time. Rehearsals commence promptly so please allow a few minutes to get to class so you don’t miss out on anything.

Apologies for absence or lateness should be sent to your Venue Manager, not phoned through to the office. Please check the contact details on the front of this newsletter as some details have changed.

Scheduled Break

Beginners OnStage have a scheduled five minute break during their rehearsal. Please provide a drink bottle and a snack which can be eaten during this time. Whilst students have the opportunity to go to the bathroom during this break, we encourage parents to remind students to go to the bathroom before they come to class.
Uniform Reminder
Students are reminded to wear correct uniform to rehearsals each week. The Beginners OnStage uniform consists of:
- Beginners OnStage T’shirt;
- Black jazz shoes;
- Black rehearsal pants (track suit, shorts or leggings - no skirts or dresses.)

Long hair should be tied back neatly off the face.

It is recommened that parents of younger students use elastic in their jazz shoes instead of laces as they can then be pulled on and off easily.

Programme Donations

Every semester the Children’s Performing Company donates a portion of programme sales to charity. Semester One saw $2836.00 donated to each of the Starlight Children’s Foundation and the Saving Lilly Robyn Foundation.

The total donation to charity was $5672.00. Thank you for all the families who purchased a programme during our last performance season!

Lost Property
We still have a large number of uncollected lost property items from Semester One and the mid year performances. Lost property will be on display at our Hawthorn Venue (Swinburne Senior Secondary College - 505 Burwood Rd, Hawthorn. Melway: 45 E 10) on Saturday 19 September from 10am - 3:30pm.
Lost property from Term 3 will be held by your venue manager until the end of the term. At the end of Term 3 all lost property will be donated to charity.
